Thursday Rehearsal

Greetings All Hope everyone had a great summer.  We start up again this Thursday, with some exciting performance opportunities including a Cathedral concert in Dec., Christmas in the Park, and other possibilities we'll discuss at rehearsal.  Our rehearsal site is changed to Westmont High School, 4805 Westmont Avenue, Campbell, CA 95008-5725.  Our host, Dan Naylor, will meet us in front at 7:30 p.m. and guide us to our rehearsal facility.  See you then for some great music!

A fond farewell

1.  We'd like to bid one of our founding members, Drew Erickson, former Band Director of Santa Clara High School, a very fond farewell and best wishes for him and his family as they make a new life in Arizona.  We'd like to thank him greatly for his generosity in allowing us to use his band room all these years for rehearsals, his hard work and dedication not only for us but for all of his students, and his remarkable musicianship.  He will be sorely missed. 2.  Rehearsals will continue on Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m. at Santa Clara High through the summer with a formal concert still planned before school starts.  More activities are being planned for the group, including a concert at the large St. Joseph's Cathedral in downtown San Jose that may also incorporate members of the San Jose State trombone ensemble.  Stay tuned. 3.  Our library continues to grow (over 150 great pieces) with more people writing and supplying the group with more wonderful charts! See you Thursday.

SJSU Trombone Choir Concert

Here's a message from Professor Tom Hornig, trombone instructor at San Jose State University:   We have another trombone event next Monday April 11 at 7:30. The SJSU Trombone Choir will have its spring concert then. I will be performing a solo on that program, and we will be featuring a trombone quartet from Amador High School in Pleasanton. This high school quartet is really special, and that they all are from one high school is remarkable. I believe their performance could prove to be very inspiring for young players. The concert is free. Instructors, be sure to let your students know about this performance. We'll talk about carpooling, etc. at rehearsal Thursday night.

SBTC to play St. Joseph's Cathedral

We have recently been invited to play Dec. 12 of this year at St. Joseph's Cathedral in downtown San Jose, a 45 - 55 minute concert to raise money for the homeless.  It will be part of a series of concerts there leading up to Christmas Eve and starting Dec. 11 with the Symphony Silicon Valley (the former San Jose Symphony).  This is a Monday evening but it will allow us to do the antiphonal works as they should be performed.  Please mark it on your calendar and join us Thursday nights as, hopefully,  we will be performing throughout the year.

Trombone Recital

Tom Hornig is a professional soloist with major symphonies, trombone professor at San Jose State, and conductor of their trombone ensemble.  This should not be missed!   I'm giving a faculty recital on  Monday April 4 at 7:30pm: San Jose State University Concert Hall.    Hope to see you there.
